Handmade Wardrobe Essentials : Beta Workshop

March 17 & 24 · 6–8pm EST · Two sessions online via Zoom $80 · Beta student rate

The foundation of garment sewing happens before you cut a single piece of fabric. It's the stage that sets you up for everything that follows and it's almost always rushed.

Reading your size chart properly. Understanding what finished garment measurements actually tell you. Preparing your pattern so it's ready to work with. Laying out and cutting your fabric accurately. Marking the details that make assembly make sense.

These steps aren't preamble. They're the work. When you understand them properly, the sewing itself gets easier and more enjoyable.

This workshop is designed to give you that groundwork. Two sessions to build the foundation that confident garment sewists rely on, whether you're just starting out or filling in gaps you never knew were there.

We'll slow down for the steps most classes rush past and give each one the attention it deserves.

Session 1 - Monday March 17 · Before You Cut Reading a size chart and finished garment measurements · understanding ease · tools that actually help · pattern prep (tracing vs. cutting vs. PDF) · understanding your cutting layout · open conversation and questions

Session 2 - Monday March 24 · From Cut to Ready to Sew Laying out your fabric carefully · pins vs. pattern weights · scissors vs. rotary cutter · efficient cutting · marking notches and darts · pre-finishing and serging · open conversation and questions

For Session 1 & 2, have your fabric and pattern nearby, whatever you're planning to make next. We'll have time to address questions specific to your project.

Demo Pattern - I'll be using the Merchant & Mills Nevis Skirt throughout both sessions. You're welcome to follow along with any pattern you have, but if you'd like to work alongside me, the Nevis Skirt is available from the workroom in PDF, wide format print, and paper versions.

A note on the beta rate This is a brand new workshop and I'm running this beta version first. Your feedback after each session will directly shape the final version. Beta students receive lifetime access to the workshop as it evolves and this rate won't exist once it launches properly.
