ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
The Merchant & Mills Sanda is an oversized jacket or coat with a rolled collar, turn back cuffs, and a relaxed silhouette that works across a wide range of fabrics. The jacket version has patch pockets; the coat has inseam pockets. You can make it lined or unlined. This four-week Zoom sewing workshop focuses on the construction details that make this garment worth making well: collar application, cuff finishing, pocket construction, and the lined vs. unlined decision.
WHAT YOU’LL MAKE
A lined or unlined Sanda jacket or coat in your choice of fabric - oilskin, jacquard, linen, denim, wool, corduroy, or cotton twill.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
- Choosing between the jacket and coat versions, and lined vs. unlined construction
- Applying a rolled collar cleanly and getting it to sit right
- Constructing and finishing turn back cuffs
- Patch pocket construction (jacket) and inseam pocket construction (coat)
- Adding Buttonholes

- 8 hours of live online sewing instruction across 4 Tuesday evening sessions

A NOTE ON FIT
We’ll cover fit and sizing in the first session. Due to the nature of Zoom workshops, complex fitting is beyond what we can cover thoroughly, but you’ll leave the first session knowing your size and what simple adjustments to make before you cut.
