Got questions about the Flower Branch Sew Along? We've got answers.

I've never made a quilt before. Can I do this?

Yes. We designed this sew along with new quilters in mind. The construction method is actually a great introduction to quilting because it's built on repetition - once you've sewn your first strip set, you know how to sew them all. The workroom NOTES walk you through everything step by step, starting with a quick start guide that gets your first unit finished without having to cut out the entire quilt. Finishing something quickly at the start gives you confidence and the opportunity to have a quick win.

Wow - 2,268 squares?

Yes. But here's what that number doesn't tell you: fewer than 200 of those squares get cut individually. The rest are sewn as pre-planned strip sets and colour pairs, which means you're cutting strips, not squares. You sew two colours together along the long edge, press, and subcut. It's faster, more accurate, and far more satisfying than cutting thousands of individual pieces.

We've mapped every pair for you.

Is this quilt too advanced for me?

Not at all. The Tilda Flower Branch Embroidery Quilt looks complex because it has 2,268 squares and 28 colours. But the actual sewing is simple: straight seams, consistent pressing, the same techniques repeated across every unit. If you've made a quilt before, you have the skills. If you haven't, this sew along will teach you the fundamentals while you make something genuinely beautiful.

What makes a pixel quilt feel hard is the planning and organization. Rather than individual squares, you'll mostly be sewing pairs of strips, which has all been laid out for you in detail. the workroom NOTES will be your step by step guide to making this quilt efficiently and with ease.

What's in the workroom NOTES?

The NOTES are our complete construction companion for this pattern. We have completely reorganized the assembly of this quilt for maximum efficiency. Every decision about construction order, strip pairings, and cutting sequence has been made for you.

  • Fabric swatch card - label and organize all 28 colours in your own personal map
  • Quick start guide - a step-by-step walkthrough of your first unit so you finish something fast
  • Full strip piecing plan for all 9 units - every colour pair mapped
  • Cutting checklist - tick off each strip set as you go
  • Pressing reference card - designed to print and pin by your iron

What's the quick start guide?

It's a complete walkthrough of Unit 6. We've written out a step by step guide so your very first sewing session ends with a finished unit. Rather than spending all your time cutting, this gets you on the sewing machine quickly so that you can get a feel for the construction. Plus, you'll see how efficient & fun this method is.

How does the sew along work?

The sew along runs over 9 weeks starting June 8th. You work through the project at your own pace using the workroom NOTES, with four live Zoom sessions with Karyn spaced across the 9 weeks - one to kick things off and get everyone oriented, and three more to check in, troubleshoot, and keep momentum going. All sessions are recorded so you can watch on your own schedule if you can't make it live.

Zoom dates (all sessions 7–8pm EST):

  • Monday June 8 - kick off
  • Monday June 22
  • Monday July 13
  • Monday July 27 - finish line

What are the Zoom sessions for?

Each session is a one-hour live meet up with the community. We'll review the pattern, share tips and demo the basics in the Kick Off session. The following meetings will be more of a working session and check-in. We'll look at where everyone is up to, answer questions, troubleshoot anything that isn't working, and sew together. It's also just a genuinely nice way to work on a big project alongside other people who are doing the same thing.

What if I fall behind?

The 9 weeks is a guide, not a deadline. The NOTES are yours to keep and work through in your own time. The recordings mean you won't miss anything from the Zoom sessions. And if life gets in the way, it does for everyone - you can pick up exactly where you left off. The whole project is designed to be put down and picked back up without losing your place.

Do I have to buy a kit?

No. The sew along is open whether you're using a Tilda Chambray Basics kit from us, pulling from your Kona stash, or sourcing your own fabrics.
