The Woven Tee : Virtual Workshop

In this 3-week live Zoom workshop, we’ll focus on understanding the structure of a classic woven tee and building confidence through thoughtful decision-making. Rather than following a single pattern step by step, this workshop emphasizes pattern literacy, fabric awareness, and transferable construction techniques that can be applied across many woven garments.

This class explores the shared structure behind classic woven tee designs. Using a small group of well-known patterns as reference points, we’ll focus on learning how woven tees work so the skills and insights gained can be applied across many patterns and future projects. The goal is to leave with a well-finished woven tee and the confidence to approach other woven tee patterns.

Pattern Options & Parameters

This workshop is designed for simple, pull-on woven tee patterns. Participants are welcome to use a pattern similar in style and construction to the Named Clothing Inari, Grainline Studio Scout, Merchant & Mills Camber, or the Elizabeth Suzann Georgia. Patterns should be intended for woven fabrics, have no closures or collars. Both set-in and grown-on sleeves are appropriate. If you’re unsure whether your pattern is a good fit, please reach out before registering for guidance.

By studying the woven tee as a garment category, this workshop builds skills and understanding that apply across many patterns, not just one.

Over three sessions, we’ll explore:

  • What defines a woven tee

  • Ease, silhouette, and proportion across various woven tee patterns

  • Fabric behaviour and its role in construction and finishing choices

  • Common neckline and sleeve structures used in woven tees

  • Core construction techniques that repeat across patterns

  • Finishing decisions and troubleshooting common issues

Fit & Scope Note

Fit will be discussed in relation to ease, proportion, and pattern design. Due to the nature of live Zoom workshops, fitting instruction is limited. Guidance will be provided for making simple adjustments, but complex fitting changes are beyond the scope of this class.
