Esme is an oversized, super cozy and relaxed maxi cardigan sewing pattern. This sweater jacket features a chunky button closure, large in-seam front pockets, dropped shoulders, and rolled-up cuffs that emphasize the casual and carefree look.

This pattern comes with plenty of ease. Check the finished measurements for your size and, if necessary, select a size smaller than usually if you want the garment to be more fitted.

Sizes : XS - XXL

Materials & Supplies

  • Pocket bag fabric, 25 cm (1/4 yd)

  • Fusible knit interfacing, 145 cm (1 5/8 yd)

  • Stay tape, 155 cm (1 ¾ yd)

  • Large buttons, 5 pcs

Fabric Recommendations : Choose a medium weight or heavy fabric with 20 - 40% stretch. For example terry, sweatshirt jersey or a heavier teddy or cable knit. Be careful with fabrics that are very drapey and soft, as they might make the pockets look untidy. In such case, consider omitting the front pockets.

For the pocket bags, pick a medium weight, sturdy knit fabric that matches your main fabric. Ponte is a great choice, but make sure your pocket bag fabric isn’t heavier than the main fabric. You can also use your main fabric for the pocket bags.

Architectural style for the modern maker

Named Clothing

Named Clothing is a Finnish pattern label founded by sisters Saara and Laura Huhta, blending Scandinavian minimalism with unexpected, editorial design details. Remaining a small, family-run studio since 2013, Named moves beyond the everyday pattern, favouring architectural silhouettes and considered construction over trend-driven design. Rooted in Nordic design principles and a commitment to ethical, ecological making, Named equips makers to step off the fast-fashion treadmill and hand-craft garments with lasting design value. Whether you're drawn to clean lines or bold statement pieces, Named Clothing brings modern makers a distinctly Scandinavian perspective on sewing.
