Natural Dyeing Day Camp : starts Wednesday June 21, 10:30am-5pm for 3 consecutive days
Special Summer Day Camp edition!
An introduction to the magical world of dyeing with natural dyestuffs (plants, bugs and minerals). Students will learn everything they need to know to continue an exploration of natural dyes at home, including mordanting, preparing the dyebath, and dyeing with cotton fabric, linen fabric and wool yarn. Basic surface design techniques such as shibori will also be explored. Each student will also complete a dye sample book for future reference.
The second day of the class will focus entirely on Indigo dyeing and Shibori techniques. An intensive day learning about the magic of Indigo dyeing. Each student will learn to make their own fructose vat to work with during the day. Explore Japanese shibori and other dip dyeing techniques. All dye stuffs will be provided, just bring your fibres for dyeing!
The third day of the class will focus on Clay Resist - a technique where a clay paste is painted, stencilled or stamped onto fabric. The fabric will then be dyed in our indigo vats, and the dye will resist wherever the paste has been applied. A simple and fun way to create your own patterned fabric.
This natural dyeing class is three 6-hour sessions, with a half hour break during each session
The second session is Thursday June 22, and the final session will be Friday June 23.
