THE WORKROOM PARKDALE : This workshop is scheduled to take place in our new studio at 207 Cowan Avenue, Unit A. We can't wait to welcome you there!

Sew your new favourite everyday bag, the Buckthorn Backpack or Tote! This clever pattern by Noodlehead is a joy to sew and a wonderful opportunity to explore bag making and sewing with hardware. Both versions feature a top zipper closure, exterior and interior pockets, comfortable handles and a fully lined clean finish. The Backpack utilizes beautiful hardware to create adjustable straps and the Tote has makes a great craft project bag or lunch bag.

Prerequisite: Students should know how to thread a sewing machine and have experience following and completing a pattern to take this class. 

This accessory class is three 3-hour sessions. This class meets each Thursday for four weeks, August 1, 8, 15 & 22.

Please note: As we all sew at an individual pace, projects are not always completed during class hours. Class participants have complimentary access to our Parkdale Studio space during Sew By The Hour times until their workshop project is completed.

CLASS SUPPLIES : Class fees include workshop registration and in-shop use of sewing machines and irons. All supplies, materials and personal tools are to be provided by each student, unless otherwise specified. Upon enrolment, a Class Confirmation and Supply List will be emailed by our shop team so that these items can be gathered or purchased prior to the class. We welcome a visit, call or email with any questions regarding this workshop and the required supplies prior to registration.

CANCELLATION POLICY : Class fees are non-refundable. Any cancellations or changes to your registration must be done at least 72 hours prior to the class start date in order to be issued a store credit. Cancellations that are made less than 72 hours before the class start date and students who do not show up to class will forfeit their class fee.

  • How to use hardware to create adjustable straps for bag making, such as Sliders, D rings and Swivel Snaps
  • Tricks for positioning and securing thick webbing canvas without pinning
  • How to sew a steep curve to a straight edge
  • How to use an Edgestitch Foot and 1/4” Foot for perfect topstitching
  • Tips for sewing through and over thick layers
  • Installing a handbag zipper with a clean finished binding
  • How to clean finish both ends of your zipper tape
  • Optional bonus! learn how to install rivet hardware for a professional look and added strength
  • Optional bonus! swap the front opened pocket for a zippered front pocket
  • Optional bonus! learn how to swap out a standard metal zipper slider for a decorative pull

Our bright Parkdale Studio is equipped with Bernina sewing machines and sergers, large cutting tables and ironing stations. Students will also learn to use specialty presser feet, essential sewing machine features as required for their class project.
